The Elementary Playground |
Mrs. Redinger, retired third grade teacher, had a vision of a wonderful and exciting place for children to explore and have fun. She visited many different playgrounds in the county to get an idea of what would be best for our kids at Grant Elementary.
To raise the money the students sold many t-shirts, had bake sales, a 3rd grade garage sale, collected pennies, collected Meijer bags and Big G box tops. We also had a march for the playground. Mrs. Redinger's class sold jean rugs. There were also private donations given. A few students even made bead rings to sell.
It took three years and a lot of work and determination. The end product was worth it! Grant Elementary earned $43,000! The Fremont Foundation contributed $25,000 and the rest of the money was given by the school system. The total for the playground was $98,000. The cost would have been even higher if we had to pay to put it together.
Many community members donated their time and hard work to assemble the equipment. Finally in the summer of 1999 the project was finished.
There are tire swings, sky gliders, a twirly slide, monkey bars, sand box, regular slides, yard slider. The above photos with the yellow and red equipment are the new pieces to the fantastic new playground.
Thanks Mrs. Redinger!
